Friday Hiking review...Mishe Mokwa Trail-Sandstone Peak, Malibu

Hi! I love hiking, I try to go at least 3 times a month. My passion is for exploring new trails, so I figured why not post my hiking adventures and pictures on here every Friday? I love trails where there is an ultimate reward at the end or throughout such as spectacular scenery, a serene lake or a rushing waterfall (yes, there are waterfalls in LA!). As always, always open to suggestions :)

Mishe Mokwa Trail- Sandstone Peak- Malibu, CA
5 Stars
6 miles Roundtrip
Difficulty: Moderate
Trail Condition: Easy to follow/Signs posted fairly often
Rating: 5

This one of my favorite trails in the Santa Monica Mountains. It has beautiful views throughout (the highest point in Santa Monica Mountains), a giant split rock (which is on a separate trail than the peak, if you only have time for one def. check out the peak), sandstone formations, a house sized boulder delicately balanced on a small rock beneath, as well as a rock that looks like its smiling (Did you see my picture??). The trail is mostly uphill but you are constantly distracted by the different breathtaking scenery. The drive out to trail is very curvy and is only one lane in each direction which can be a little scary.

How to Get There: From the PCH, take Yerba Buena Road (right near the border of Los Angeles and Ventura Counties) past the Circle X Ranch. A dirt parking lot is on your left after rounding a bend.

  1. That is some view! I wouldn't mind trying this guy out. I would say I'm a noobie when it comes to hiking, so what type of provisions would you recommend? I would just take water :D

Also, Its great that you are sharing your passion! I would have never guessed you liked hiking. And those photo's are breathtaking. Sometimes I think people forget what type of scenery we take for granted thats just in our backyards.

Good job, keep up the good work!

    P.S.
Maybe you could make a seperate link with even more pictures? :) I wouldn't mind seeing what the begining of the trail looked like! Or other various/miscellaneious (sp?) pictures
