Big Santa Anita Canyon, Sierra Madre
5 Stars
Highlights: Waterfall, middle (lower) trail, lots of trees/babbling brooks
Difficulty: Moderate
Trail Condition: Good but a semi steep climb back up to the parking lot
Summary: I loved this trail! It is mostly set in the forest and you are passing quite a few little cabins (a little spooky, since I didn’t see anyone) that must have been (might still be used?) at some point for camping. Def. do not miss hiking the middle (aka lower trail), it is gorgeous. There are also some secluded pools up there and a few more smaller waterfalls. The hike back up to the parking lot is a little strenuous, a dirt road without much shade.
How to get there: From the Foothill Freeway(210) in Arcadia, exit on Santa Anita Avenue and drive six miles north to its end at Chantry Flat. The trail begins across the road from the parking lot
